A new study published in December 2012 issue of the Journal of Oral Implantology tested implant-placing technologies for accuracy. The study used a cone-beam CT (CBCT), a 3D stereolithographic model (STL), and anatomy methods to measure the anterior loop of the mental nerve. The researchers attempted to determine the accuracy of CBCT and STL in identifying and measuring the anterior loop. The CBCT was found to be accurate and reliable, making CBCT a prerequisite in identifying and measuring the ANLL.
